Timeless hits like “Tek je 12 sati”, “Da ti nisam bila dovoljna”, “Ne traži ljubav” and “Drugo ime ljubavi” still spark the same euphoria today as they did more than three decades ago when they were first released on the cult album Second to None by ET – Electro Team. An album that reshaped the course of Croatian music history is now being released on vinyl for the first time – in a deluxe, remastered and expanded edition featuring four previously unreleased tracks.
A limited edition of the album, released late last year, was initially made available to the most dedicated fans, collectors, and DJs. However, this marks its official media launch.
In the early 1980s, as hip-hop was entering the global mainstream, only a handful of young artists in Croatia embraced the new sound. Among them were Boytronic and Darko Juranović D’Knock (then known as Da’Real), who were deeply inspired by global hip-hop culture – rapping in English, creating graffiti, and breakdancing. In 1987, the group ET – Electro Team was formed. The name, concept, and visual identity were created by Boytronic, while the core lineup initially consisted of him and D’Knock. They were later joined by Nino Mlinac SkyRocker, with DJ Fresh Jay and DJ Furious contributing as affiliated members.
At a time when the local scene was still rooted in traditional pop formats, ET took a global approach, bringing an entirely new sound to Croatia. With the arrival of Vanna – a charismatic vocalist with a powerful and distinctive voice – the group found its true identity. The fusion of rap, electronic production, and strong melodic hooks created something entirely new for the region.
Second to None was recorded at the Nostradamus studio of Senna M, where Boytronic, D’Knock, Vanna, and producer Miro Buljan spent months crafting songs and building a sound that would redefine production standards. That energy culminated in the breakout hit “Tek je 12 sati”, after which nothing was the same. What followed was an unprecedented wave of excitement – radio stations played the track countless times a day, the video shoot at the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) brought central Zagreb to a standstill, and venues quickly became too small for the growing audience.
The album marked the moment when club-oriented music in the region became mainstream and inspired generations of artists who followed. More than 30 years later, these songs continue to resonate with audiences of all ages. This anniversary does not mark a reunion of the original lineup (Boytronic, Vanna, Da’Real), which defined the golden era of the 1990s, but rather serves as a tribute to the time in which an album that changed the local music scene was created.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the album is now presented in the format it truly deserves: a double 180-gram vinyl, remastered from the original tapes, featuring four previously unreleased tracks, along with an extensive booklet including archival photography, an in-depth interview by Zlatko Turkalj with the band members, and a tribute to the group written by Ninna Lara Vidaković.
The vinyl edition of Second to None is available via the Scardona webshop and authorized retailers.
Labels: Scardona and Boytronic Production.
As part of the anniversary campaign, an official trailer has also been released, capturing the spirit of one of the most influential eras in Croatian pop and club music. The trailer was created by Jelena Juranović Jay and Darko Juranović D’Knock.
